Bunky — Mobile App Design

Overview

Background Information:

Bunky is a mobile app created by two Cal Poly students, Myles Biggs and Chris Katwan, to address the difficulties of finding the perfect roommate in college. The app allows users to express their personality and preferences by crafting unique profiles that have customizable background colors, photos, and widgets. Additionally, the app’s matchmaking algorithm connects students who share similar profiles, allowing users to spark conversations with matches to further explore roommate compatibility.

Founded in 2023, the app is steadily growing its user base, as students from a variety of colleges are starting to discover Bunky as a useful resource for finding roommates. As designers, our task was to improve the visuals of the existing app while simplifying the process of browsing roommate profiles and chatting with potential roommates. Over 9 weeks, our team was responsible for redesigning the existing mobile interface to improve overall user experience, while still maintaining the app’s branding, colors, and retro theme.

Problem Statement:

To effectively communicate Bunky’s branding we analyzed our client’s current screens for usability, aesthetics, and functionality. Using feedback from both the clients and users, we aimed to design a visually appealing college roommate finding app that enhances user experience and fosters a sense of community among incoming college students.
